A BAND from Weymouth under the name of Violin Shoppe were crossing their fingers for a record deal at the start of 1970.

Nearly 50 years ago the music group were reported to have taken part in a recording session attended by representatives from two of the world’s biggest record companies.

One of those was Wessex Sound Studios, said to be 'a name that is regarded with the highest respect' within the record business. According to the Dorset Evening Echo, leading labels such as EMI, Decca and CBA contract a large amount of work to Wessex Sound Studios, and they have hence produced music by the likes of Bob Dylan, Cilla Black and the London Symphony Orchestra.

Violin Shoppe spent three hours in the London-based studios, recording Marriage Man, The House and The Millpond, and the Bee Gees’ number New York Mining Disaster.

The article, published on February 3, 1970, concluded: “In the unlikely event of nothing coming in the way of a contract, Violin Shoppe can again some consolation from the fact that they broke into the London club scene. After the recording session, they did a booking at the Whisky-a-Gogo club in Wardour Street.”

Does anyone know what happened to the members of Violin Shoppe?
