WE'VE had a request for information about two photographers who used to work on Weymouth beach and promenade.
Allan Collier of Yeovil would like to know more about Louisa Gee, who worked at the American Studio on the sands from about 1890 to 1927 and John Ewart Chambers, who took mainly walking photo postcards on the promenade at Chambers Kiosk
Mr Collier writes: "I’ve attached a redemption ticket which featured his kiosk, kindly donated by Richard Samways.
"I have several examples of Chambers postcards but none by Mrs Gee , I suspect she was taking the very popular seaside tintype photos which usually were unnamed.
"We would like to hear from anyone who knew of them or have information or have photos taken by them."
Mr Collier and two colleagues are researching Dorset Photographers 1851 – 1939 to accompany their already published Somerset edition Secure the Shadow , Somerset Photographers 1839 – 1939.
He has had much help and encouragement from local historians and authors Richard Samways and Maureen Attwooll.
