Here's a close-up of a party on Portland in a rather different sense of the word.
This image of a cleaning party from the former Portland Convict Prison at The Grove dates back to 1904.
The cleaning party is passing by the medical officer's house. The cart's large single wheels made it very unstable.
The Portland Prison tradition and later into the Borstal days if two or three pushing with hands on trolley and one pulling probably stems from this period.
This image comes from Portland Convict Miscellany Volume 1, by John Hutton.
