WELL done to these Echo readers who have shown us their marvellous pumpkin designs.

From a traditional pumpkin face carving to fancy movie designs - we’ve seen an array of stunning pumpkins.

Jack-o-lanterns are based on Stingy Jack, who tricked the Devil for his own monetary gain. When Jack died, God didn’t allow him into heaven, and the Devil didn’t let him into hell, so Jack was sentenced to roam the earth for eternity.

People started to carve demonic faces out of turnips (pumpkins in the US) to frighten away Jack’s wandering soul.

We’re going to be showing off more of your designs online at dorsetecho.co.uk and in the paper along with your best Halloween costumes and house decorations. If you’re proud of your spooky celebrations, pumpkins, costumes, decorations or otherwise, email your pictures to joanna.davis@dorsetecho.co.uk
