With the clocks going back last weekend, the summer seems such a distant memory.

So it seems timely to cast our minds back to happy days of youngsters playing in the water at the paddling pool in the Borough Gardens, Dorchester.

Here at Looking Back we were contacted by Chris Stevens who was keen to see a photo of this popular Dorchester pool.

Chris wrote: "I was born in Dorchester in 1949, the son of Mr DR Stevens the then well known Dental Surgeon, and have many happy memories of my childhood growing up at No 34 London Road.

"However, in 1966 I left to pursue a full career with the Royal Air Force, during which time my family links became severed, and I continued to work for the MoD until my final retirement in February 2018. I now reside in Trowbridge, which is not a patch on Dorchester incidentally!

"The paddling pool was created from the Second World War ARP water storage tank that was located in the north west end of the gardens.

"Visiting the gardens, I note that the pool also has been removed. Of this too I have many happy memories, and I was again quite saddened to discover that it had gone.

"Since I can no longer accurately recall its position and layout, I have been searching the internet to try and find photographs or site plans of the period but, sadly, to no avail. Although I was fortunate to have gained sight of a proposed development planning drawing, forwarded to me by Mr Dallison in the town council, showing the position of the pool."

We hope this picture brings back some happy memories Chris.
