Who remembers when brand new cars used to arrive at Weymouth on cargo ships?
This image, taken by late Dorset Evening Echo photographer Harry Green shows Ford cars, built in Spain, having been unloaded and on their way to being transported by road to Yeovil.
You probably recognise the mini roundabout which leads to the car park next to Weymouth Pavilion.
The shiny new cars that have just arrived are mark one Fiestas and it is thought this picture was taken in the late 1970s. Ford Granadas were also known to arrive in the late 70s and early 80s.
It wasn't just during the day when these cars would arrive in Weymouth, they'd also come at night, 'rattling' past people's homes in Dorchester Road and would sound even worse when emptied with all the chains rattling and banging through the night!
Apparently on one occasion when new cars were being transported north to Yeovil one load 'came to grief' in The Grove, Dorchester and Fiestas were scattered across the road.
