These photos of Dorset in the 1950s put a smile on our faces.

In particular we love the image of Wyke Regis, Weymouth, from 1954. It's quite simply stunning.

You can see the neighbourhood stretching to Chesil Beach and the spire of All Saints Church next to what appear to be fields stretching out for miles.

None of the development around Lanehouse Rocks Road has happened and back then the Wyke Smugglers pub was known as the Wyke Hotel.

We also love the Weymouth 1954 image showing the stretch of golden sands going out to Preston and beyond. St John's Church is recognisable but there is little development along Preston Beach Road, a time before Lodmoor Country Park and the attractions that call the area home now.

Another favourite is the picture of Seatown and Golden Cap. The Anchor Inn remains today and it's remarkable to see how few cars there are at Seatown compared to the situation today!
