This is a picture of an impressive building that was demolished in 1956.

Can you guess where it was taken?

There is a clue to the left of the photo in the distance, which, for most of us familiar with Weymouth, will probably mean we are able to place the photo.

If you guessed that this picture was taken in King Street in Weymouth and shows Christchurch, then well done!

This picture shows Christchurch clad in scaffolding before it was demolished in 1956. It is from the collection of Terrence Gale. The clue to the left of the photo is of course the Jubilee Clock in Weymouth.

The impressive Christchurch was replaced by a typical late-1950s structure that now houses a number of shops and flats.

Below you can see the scene as it looks today.
