Would you recognise Portland from this old film shot in 1934?

This British Pathé clip shows footage from a short documentary about the isle called The Island of Stone.

Some of it looks familiar but it is considerably less developed.

You can see a man being hoisted onto a harbour wall in a small boat as we're told that 'the island is inaccessible'.

There are also shots of Portland's famous stone quarries and brief shots of St Paul's Cathedral, the Cenotaph and Regent's Street in London, all of which contain Portland stone.

You can also see farmers at work harvesting crops and shots of the lighthouse on Portland Bill, which is being turned round at dusk.

Dorset Echo:

Viewers can also see the wreck of an old sailing ship that is half buried in the beach at Chesil Cove.

Also in the footage you can see a cheeky youngster climbing aboard the ship.

There are also several shots of the jagged cliffs and coastline.
