Here are some wonderful memories of a hall that has served as a social hub for the community.

Littlemoor Community Hall was opened in 1965 by TV star Dick Emery, who was starring in the Summer Season in Weymouth that year.

The hall was made possible following a campaign by residents Des Fry and Wally Dennis, who walked around the Littlemoor area collecting 50p donations to fund its construction. Many residents contributed to the building despite their own hardship.

The hall has has many incarnations in its time: a community centre, social club (Horse Lynch Club) church, play group centre and a youth club. While serving as a church, many congregants, including Mrs Dawn Hutchinson, remember preparing the hall on a Saturday night ready for Sunday morning while some of the club's more stubborn members heckled!

The hall served as a social club with a bar until 1982 when the social club moved to the Top Club. One notable land lord was the late Brian Prowse, whose daughter continues to volunteer at the hall.

As a social club it was home to many a party and event and for much of the 70s and 80s it boasted the largest bonfire night display in Weymouth.

In 2003 the hall was re-opened by Jim Knight MP and is now run by Littlemoor Community Action Group under the chairmanship of community champion Gillian Paterson, who manages the hall and the base for Councillor Louie O'Leary's ward surgeries. It continues to hold community events including kids' parties, bingo and an annual fun day.

Thanks to Cllr Louie O'Leary for compiling these memories and sharing these photos.
