These pictures show that the incident of a lorry hitting a building in Weymouth town centre a few days ago was far from the first to occur in that spot.

On Tuesday a lorry struck Bridge House - which contains the Edge Cafe - causing damage to the historic building.

Dorset Echo:

The road was closed by police as the lorry was removed and loose debris from the building was carefully removed.

Large vehicles got into difficulty in exactly the same spot in two separate incidents back in the 1960s.

It doesn't appear as though these incidents saw Bridge House damaged, but one of them looks particularly serious.

As you can see, a massive amount of timber was shed at the corner of St Thomas Street and St Edmund Street in one picture.

The pile is so huge it completely blocks the access to St Thomas Street!

People on the left of the picture look on at the scene and you can also see a sign for the Wimpy restaurant behind the timber.

In the other picture you can see what looks like more timber shed in the same area.

Dorset Echo:

Traffic is continuing to travel down the street in one direction while in the other direction a driver has got out of his car to survey the scene in front of him.
