This wonderful old street scene is a favourite of ours.

Featuring a horse and cart with the horse sating its thirst at a water pump, the street behind may look familiar, Not much has changed here, although you are bound to see much more traffic on the road these days.

In fact, although once a place where horses would refuel, this road is the only place in the vicinity today where there is a fuel station.

Another old Dorset street scene for you to guess the location of

The petrol station was originally a stone yard with the Saw Mill Tavern adjoining it.

Nearby are two windmills, which are Grade II listed stone towers dating from as early as 1608 when they were first recorded in the Land Revenue Accounts. They are the only historic windmill remains to survive in Dorset.

If you guessed that this old picture was taken in Easton Lane, Portland, then well done! You do know the area well.

Here's a picture taken from roughly the same spot in more recent times.
