IN THE late 1980s and early 1990s the scourge of Weymouth and Portland Borough Council and authority figures way beyond was journalist Simon Regan and his monthly publication, Scallywag.

Simon, who had worked for the News of the World, specialised and revelled in making outrageous allegations and, in Weymouth, exposing the dark side of local government.

He was a regular sight in the resort’s pubs where he would hold court. In the photos by Idris Martin we see Simon in typical pose and at the bar alongside what he referred to as ‘the monstrous regiment’ of women.

Scallywag was a popular magazine.
