WEYMOUTH historian Greg Schofield is hoping to launch a history society for the town.
He would like to see a group that meets every other month to discuss and even dig deeper into the town’s fascinating past.
Greg said: “After making enquiries, it appears that Weymouth does not have a history society. This seems a crying shame given the rich and varied local history. “I would like to see a group meeting about six times a year with a member giving a talk on the results of their research, or a guest speaker with opportunities for questions and answers.
“We could also discuss local recent discoveries or developments and one of the meetings could be a visit to a relatively local site of historical interest.”
He added: “Meetings would take place in the Old Town Hall opposite the Boot Inn, a fairly central location with adjacent parking and bus stop.
“A small committee would be essential to organise or coordinate, as would a subscription to cover essential expenses.
“Volunteers to serve on the committee would be welcomed, as would anyone just interested in attending meetings.”
