*WHY not go to the BSO’s very own New Year Johann Strauss Gala in Weymouth tomorrow?

Victor Aviat will conduct the BSO in an exhilarating array of waltzes, polkas and marches at Weymouth Pavilion on Saturday, January 6 at 7.30pm.

‘The Waltz King’ wrote hundreds of memorable melodies and you can be sure that two of his most famous ones, The Blue Danube and Thunder and Lightning Polka will be on the menu.

The full symphonic forces of the BSO will once again be joined by outstanding soprano Rhian Lois to bring you an evening of swirling melodies to carry you away into the glamour and sparkle of Viennese Dance Halls.

The programme will consist of Strauss's Overture to Fledermaus, Sphärenklänge Waltz Op.235 and Die Libelle Polka.

Also being performed are Vedrai Carino from Don Giovanni and Musetta's Walz from La Boheme by Puccini. Another Puccini classic O Mio Babbino Caro will be performed.

Audiences will also be able to enjoy On the Blue Danube and the Emperor Waltz.

*GET ready for a laugh as Sunday Night Comedy returns to Weymouth Pavilion on Sunday with Ed Gamble.

Currently on his hugely successful Mammoth tour, the self-styled 'gobby little toerag' Ed heads to the Pavilion to headline an unmissable night of comedy.

Off of Mock the Week (BBC2), Drunk History (Comedy Central), Conan (TBS), Almost Royal (E4), Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central), Edinburgh Comedy Fest Live (BBC3), Man Down (C4) as well as countless other things.

*SEE paintings and jewellery made by local artists at Create at the Cove in West Lulworth.

For this guest exhibition local artist Annie Lovelass will be exhibiting her images which range from exhilarating scenery to her unique style of animals and portraits.

Debs Grandchamp-Pool has many years experience of designing and making jewellery. She regularly uses semi-precious stones and is hoping to run courses soon where you can re-use your old jewellery to create something new. The exhibition is open from now until January 29 daily from 10am to 5pm.

*COMING up on Wednesday, Dorchester-based actor and writer Sue Wylie will see her play Kinetics, now a film, premiered in Dorchester at the Plaza cinema.

Sue wrote the play in reaction to her to her diagnosis with early-onset Parkinson’s.

As a stage play it has toured the South West and London, selling more than 1500 tickets and receiving phenomenal feedback from audiences and medical professionals alike, for its bravery, honesty, humour and passion.

This film version will not only take the play to a wider audience but is also being used as a training and information resource for Parkinson’s nurses, carers, doctors and medical students.

Tickets for the premiere on Wednesday at the Plaza Cinema in Dorchester at 6pm cost £10 and include a drinks reception at the Corn Exchange after the film.
