ONE of the most recent projects that the Dorset Youth Council (DYCE) have taken on is The 2015 UNESCO UK World Heritage Youth Summit.

This involved many young people from different heritage sites around the UK including myself and the Jurassic Coast youth team going on a three-day trip to the World Heritage site in Blaenavon, Wales.

We visited the local attractions, including the Big Pit National Coal Museum which gave everyone attending an insight into the wonders of the local area that was a mining icon throughout the 19th century.

The five of us that attended from the Jurassic Coast Heritage team had an aim to come back and launch the Heritage Coast Youth Ambassadors to help promote young people getting involved in their local heritage.

This trip was an amazing opportunity and as well as an informative event, there was a competition to create a piece of media demonstrating your area’s local heritage and how we can use it to make the place we live in better.

The Jurassic Youth team submitted a fantastic video made by one of our team that you can find on our Twitter.

Our video got second prize in the competition and was described as ‘extremely successful in it’s aim’.
