WEYMOUTH boss Garry Hill hit out at it his goal-shy strikers after Saturday's disappointing 2-0 defeat at Stafford Rangers in Nationwide Conference National.

The loss brought to an end a run of seven games unbeaten but had the Terras taken their chances they would have won the encounter comfortably according to their disappointed boss.

Hill said: "We did not take our chances. We had enough to win three games and there is no doubt that scoring goals has been our biggest problem so far this season.

"We hit a post and their goalkeeper was given man of the match. He made three or four great saves and I think that says a lot. At the present time our forwards are just not giving us the goals that we need."

The Terras will no doubt be keen to bring in a new forward when the forthcoming transfer window opens in January. So far their four strikers, Wayne Purser (3), Richard Logan (3), Chukki Eribenne (2) and Raphael Nade (1), have contributed a total of just nine goals in 19 games.

Hill added: "I have been out looking but in the mean time hopefully we will have that bit of luck and someone will hit a fine run of form.

"I am happy with our defence and midfield which are both looking good but up front we are not producing the goals. The strikers are working hard but when you are on top in games you have got to take your chances and at times this season we have failed to do that.

"That is the difference between us and Dagenham & Redbridge and Oxford United who are the top two. They have forwards who are at the top of the goal-scoring charts whereas we haven't.

"I am not knocking the effort and football we are playing, it is just that we don't seem to score enough goals."

When asked whether his players might have had half an eye on next Sunday's FA Cup first round televised tie against Bury, Hill said: "That was definitely not the case. Our defeat had nothing to do with that at all. We dictated the game but did not put any of our chances away and had we done that it might have been a lot different."

Hill made four changes to his starting line up at Marston Road with Steve Tully, Simon Weatherstone, Nick Crittenden and Richard Logan being drafted in for Simon Downer, Shaun Wilkinson, Dean Howell and Raphael Nade.

He said: "Simon Downer and Abdou El Kholti are both on four bookings and because we have a lot of quality defenders and I want a full squad available for chances for next week, I decided not to play them.

"That did not weaken us though because we have 19 to 20 players who are all very capable. As for Raphael Nade he was not fit beforehand. Chukki also got injured in the warm up but it is nothing serious."
