BRENDON King is facing a race against time to land a couple of loan players after Scott Walker became the third Terra to pick up a suspension in the space of a week.

The Weymouth skipper received a late red card in Saturday’s dismal 3-0 home defeat against Chesham United after catching James Potton on the shin – an infringement King still feels was accidental rather than malicious.

He told Echosport: “At first look, I didn’t think there was anything wrong with it, but having looked at the video since, he did catch him (see footage above).

“Having said that, I think it looks a lot worse than what it is and there was no malice in it at all – it was purely accidental.

“The ball got away from their guy and as Scott got his body in there and put his foot down to turn away with it, his boot has come down and caught the lad.

“Scott was certainly cut up about it afterwards, but despite there being no intent, I still don’t think it is worth us appealing as I don’t think it will get us anywhere.”

After the game, King did speak to referee Lewis Price about the incident and according to the Terras’ boss, the official did show some sympathy.

He added: “The referee said that their guy had a touch and as his leg went down, Scott put his foot in and caught him on the shin.

“He said he immediately felt it was a red card and when he went to his assistant he felt it was too.

“He also said he thought it was accidental rather than malicious but then said it doesn’t matter because, by the letter of the law, it was still a case of serious foul play.

“I think the fact that there was no intent on Scott’s part makes the decision a bit harsh, but it was a borderline call and all we can do now is just move on.”

With Ed Palmer and Craig Duff already set to serve bans, two and three games respectively, Walker’s dismissal could not have come at a worse time as the Terras continue to bid for the play-offs.

King went on to say: “With Scott now out for three games as well, we desperately need to get one or two players in on loan and we need to do it quickly.

“The end of March is the cut- off date for loans, which doesn’t give us much time, but I am hopeful something can be done.”

Potton netted twice for Chesham and also set up the third for Simon Thomas as the Generals completely outmuscled the Terras, who looked lethargic throughout.

Reflecting on the game, King said: “At the moment, Chesham are doing exactly what we did to teams three or four weeks ago and we need to get back to that.

“We have got ourselves into a fantastic position and we have done it through hard work, but I haven’t seen that in the last two performances, which have been very frustrating to watch.”

He continued: “The lad Potton ran the game and I was extremely disappointed that we didn’t deal with him better, particularly after we had spoken about him beforehand.

“Our ball retention and decision-making was also poor and as a result some harsh words were said afterwards, which may not be a bad thing, because it was just not good enough.

“A few weeks ago we were working hard, closing people down and making teams kick the ball out of play but for whatever reason we are not doing that now.

“We need to regroup and get back to playing how we know we can.”

The result has seen Chesham replace the Terras in the play-off zone on goal difference in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division. They also hold a game in hand.
