IVEL BARBARIANS 0 DORCHESTER 13

DORCHESTER Under-10s were warmly welcomed by the Ivel Barbarians and produced their best performance of the season so far.

With enough players to field two teams, the county town outfit really gelled and worked together well in both matches they played.

The first game started as a close contest with Ivel getting a good deal of possession by winnng the ball in the rucks and mauls, and they certainly were not afraid to run at the visitors but Dorchester’s defence held up well.

The deadlock was broken by the visitors whose two tries before the half-time whistle were scored as a result of good strong running and efficient moving of the ball away from the contact area.

The second half saw Dorchester exert more pressure on the hosts which ultimately paid off with four more tries being added to their tally while they only conceded one.

Dorchester’s victory came about as a result of a solid defence, a well-organised attack and above all great teamwork.

The second game was equally impressive as the away side quickly stamped their authority on the match and notched up an impressive six tries in the first half, several of which were reminiscent of the odd Barbarians’ game of old, with excellent support running and passing leading to well worked tries.

However, it was not all one-sided and Ivel gave a good stab at taking the game to Dorchester but the visitors’ defence simply would not budge with barely a missed tackle in the match.

The second half carried on where the first left off with more individual runs from players no doubt keen to get on the scoresheet and increase their team’s lead.

A further seven tries were added in what was probably the most complete display of the season so far.

Players, parents and coaches alike were all delighted with the team’s success and development.

Dorchester try scorers: Miles Quick (5), Ethan Prestwood, Jacob Critchell (2), Kerr Jeffrey (4), Jack Haslewood (3), Henry Dipple, Freddie Charles and Jet Thomas-Day (2).
