A PHYSIOTHERAPIST and keen sailor from Weymouth has launched a new website to make the ‘techniques of champions’ accessible to all.

Katherine Knight, who was resident physiotherapist at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy, has launched Performance Penguin, a new online sailing fitness resource that aims to help sailors of all levels wanting to progress.

Knight, who specialises in physiotherapy for sailors and is currently based in San Francisco with the Artemis Racing America’s Cup team, worked with the gold and bronze medal winning Swedish Olympic sailing team during the London 2012 sailing events.

She has also worked with Olympic sailing athletes from other nations, the British youth, development and Paralympic squads and sailors competing in the Commodore’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Race.

Knight can often found on the water herself and is a champion foiling Moth racer.

She said: “Developments in sports science and innovative training techniques are enabling sailors to push themselves as well as the boat harder to get the edge over their rivals.

“As with all aspects of innovation in top level sport, one of the benefits is the trickle down of these advances from the preserve of the elite, to mainstream usage.”

She added: “I’ve brought together these advances in elite fitness and training and presented them for the benefit of all sailors.

“Performance Penguin is a new online sailing fitness resource that brings the techniques of champions to all sailors wanting to improve their performance.”
