A STUNNING performance from Sam Trott saw him win this year’s Junior Open at Weymouth Golf Club in style.

A 12-under-par round of 58 (nett) saw the 10-year-old take the title by three shots from Billy Hathway and George Hawkins.

Trott’s triumph also led to a four-stroke handicap cut, meaning the youngster will now be playing off 16 rather than 20.

The champion led home a field of 78 and made it a weekend to remember for the Trott household after dad Andy won the Secretary’s Putter the day before with a gross score of 82, nett 65.

“Sam is one of a group of youngsters who are going to shine in the next couple of years,” said Weymouth club pro Des Lochrie.

“It’s hard to say how far he can go because he is still young but that is a great score.

“It was a great event and the scoring was exceptional really – I can only dream of making those scores.”

Hathway just had the edge on Hawkins for second place, taking the runner-up spot on countback.
