WEYMOUTH welcome back Dean Janaway, Jim Ryall and Matt Batchelor for tomorrow’s last away game of the season at Broadstone.

Captain Matt Lawes is looking for one final push from his players after their relegation from the Dorset Premier League was confirmed last weekend.

Broadstone won the reverse fixture in June by 76 runs although Lawes feels that was definitely one that got away from the Seasiders.

Just two league triumphs all season has resulted in Weymouth’s demotion and with the campaign drawing to a close the next two weekends give Lawes and his men the opportunity to at least finish on a high.

“If the players want to get runs and wickets this season then now is the time to do it,” he said. “It won’t be long until we have a long wait for our next cricket so it’s up to them to enjoy it.

“It’s hard to take any positives from this season – being relegated is not a great feeling – but it would be nice to get one more win as we haven’t had one in the second half of the season.

“When we played Broadstone before they got runs and looked like getting 300 at one point but then we felt we should have bowled them out for 150. They got about 230 in the end and we were all out for 150 in a game we probably should have won.”

As for which players are going to represent the club next term, Lawes says it’s too soon to tell what the squad will look like.

“It’s too early to say who will be involved next season,” he added.

“Going down a division, some might not want to play that standard, who knows.

“We’ll just have to wait and see.”
