THE Leweston School Easter Training Camp was once again a great success, with 80 children between the ages of eight and 16 in attendance.

The camp was dedicated to the sports of biathle, triathlon (swim, bike, run) and tetrathlon (swim, run, shoot, fence) and participants were given the choice of focusing on just triathlon or tetrathlon, or a mixture of all the events.

The sessions were led by top coaches for each of the disciplines: three for fencing, two for shooting and eight for triathlon.

Each day the athletes completed at least four different training sessions depending on the activities they had chosen to pursue.

The triathlon group and those undertaking a mixture of events even had the opportunity to compete in two triathlon competitions during the week.

All athletes gave 100 per cent to their training throughout the week – they worked hard to improve their performances across all the activities and learned a lot of new skills.

In total, 17,000 pellets were shot in the shooting range and all athletes trained for five to seven hours per day, totalling 24-28 hours over the week.

The week was brought to a competitive close by the South West Biathle Championships. The competition was of a very high standard, generating some fantastic results for a number of the camp’s attendees.

Pupils at Leweston will continue to benefit from this high standard of training, as the school will be running a swimming /biathle/multi-sports programme over the summer term.

The Dorset Pentathletes also run sessions at the school, with regular training days and a fencing club on a Wednesday, which is open to anyone that wishes to attend.

There will be a Summer Training Camp at Leweston School from August 5-10. The same coaches will be in attendance and participants will also be able to take part in open water swimming at Weymouth.
