THE future of Weymouth Cricket Club is in good hands after the announcement of a five-year sponsorship deal with builders’ merchants Buildrite.

Delighted with the news, chief youth coach Hugh Lawes told Echosport: “Buildrite have kindly agreed to sponsor the junior section of the club for the next five years.

“It’s a long period and we are very grateful to Jason House and all the staff at Buildrite for their support.

“He is very local to Redlands and is our own local independent builders’ merchant.

“They are sponsoring the section as a whole and it is going to help with the juniors’ coaching, supplying of the gear, the match balls, the cost of the pitches and everything like that.”

The youngsters have finished their respective seasons already this term and have had successful campaigns at all levels.

With the numbers of kids increasing, Lawes believes the sponsorship will be a great help.

He added: “It just helps keep the cost of everything down.

“At the moment, the kids are paying match fees of only £2, you would not get that anywhere else and it’s just brilliant.

“Without that sponsorship we would have to try and find something from many other areas.

“Thanks must also go to Wey Valley School for enabling us to use their facilities, we have a great partnership with them.”

Lawes also announced that a Family Fun Day is set to take place for the club at Redlands this Sunday from 1pm-5pm.

He said: “All our matches have now been completed so we are having a Family Fun Day, which includes mums dads, aunties, uncles, grannies and granddads, so everybody is included.

“Newcomers are very much welcome as well.

“There will be all sorts of events, throwing competitions, bowling competitions, batting competitions and matches going on with a barbeque and drinks.”
