DORCHESTER Town defender Chris Dillon has revealed why he turned down an approach from Gosport Borough to stay with the Magpies.

The 25-year-old said he opted against a move to Privett Park after boss Mark Jermyn and chairman Matt Lucas outlined their ambitions for the club.

And Dillon told Echosport that changes in his personal life also played a role in his decision to remain part of the Magpies’ set-up.

“It was a difficult decision at first because Gosport are pushing for promotion in the Conference South,” he said. “They offered me decent money as well.

“But I had a long chat with Jem and the chairman and they told me about their ambitions for the club this season and next season.

Dorchester is an established club in a false position and we’ve definitely got the talent in the squad to stay up and then push on.”

He added: “I’ve also got a new job and if I’d changed clubs it would have unsettled me as well.

“I wanted to be settled in my job and play for Dorchester.”

Dillon and Dorchester head to Dunstable today (3pm) as they bid to build on the midweek win at Frome – a game in which Dillon scored the opening goal.

Commenting on the recent improvement in results, Dillon said: “Since Jem has come in all the boys have had a hunger to play for him and do as well as they can.

“Jem leads by example and he wants to make sure everyone is doing their job.

“The lads have got an appetite to play football and they are enjoying it.”
