WEYMOUTH skipper Trevor Challis reckons his side will have to become more "streetwise" if they are to make a serious bid for the Nationwide Conference National play-offs in the coming weeks.

The defender made his comments while reflecting on the recent home defeats against Altrincham and Woking.

He said: "In the first half against Woking on Tuesday we played some of the best football we have played all season. We scored two great goals and that is why it was all the more disappointing to lose.

"In the second half they got the ball forward quicker and a bit of naivete from us let them back into it. We did not compete as well and once they got their first it gave them a bit of hope.

"That is the third or fourth time where we have done brilliantly in one half but not the other. That is probably down to the fact that we have a new bunch of lads that have not performed together for that long but we have got to become more streetwise and ruthless.

"Had we got a third and gone 3-0 up I doubt Woking would have even had a go.

"The fact that we are still only six points off the play-offs makes the losses against Altrincham and Woking all the more disappointing. Our fans have been different class this season and we should have got something from those two games but that has gone now and we must keep battling away."

Speaking about his captaincy, Challis added: "I am really enjoying it and it is a pleasure to be working with the youngsters that we currently have at the club.

"The likes of Danny Phillips, Conal Platt and Adam Cottrell have been fantastic and it has been great seeing them progress.

"Stuart Beavon has also been a revelation and I am happy to give them any help or guidance they need whatsoever."

Challis has also been impressed with Tindall's management style.

He said: "Jason has got a completely different mentality. No disrespect to Garry Hill but he was all about points rather than performance. But with Jason he likes us to get the ball down and play.

"Since he took over from Garry everyone has responded really well. His ideas are fantastic and I think we are bit more flexible under him than we were under Garry."

The Terras will be looking to get back to winning ways when they entertain Tamworth on Saturday. Kick-off will be at 3pm.
