WEYMOUTH player-boss Jason Tindall praised his players after their 3-1 win over Tamworth at the Wessex Stadium in Nationwide Conference National.

The Terras gave away a two-goal lead in a disappointing 3-2 home defeat against Woking last Tuesday and the 29-year-old has been delighted with how his team has responded since.

Nick Crittenden put the Terras ahead but that lead was wiped out just before half-time when Taiwo Atieno headed home from a corner.

The Lambs put the hosts under pressure in the second half but a penalty from Tony James and an own goal by Rikki Baines ensured the Radipole Lane outfit moved to within four points of the play-offs.

Tindall said: "Tamworth were towards the top of the form guide before the game so to get a win against them was a very good result and exactly the reaction we wanted after a disappointing 45 minutes on Tuesday.

"I was a bit disappointed with the way we were after we scored our first goal. We sat back a bit and invited them on to us and that is not our game.

"The way we line up and with the talent that we have got that is not our strength. We are better when we are on the front foot giving the opposition problems.

"We had a strong chat at half-time, which I thought was needed, and in the second half the lads came out and responded superbly. I am now just hoping we can carry that on into Tuesday when we travel to Aldershot Town."

Two penalties were awarded in the game by referee Andrew Rodda. Ashley Vickers appeared to get the ball when he was adjudged to have upended Atieno in the first half but Jason Matthews saved the resulting spot-kick seconds before Tamworth made it 1-1.

Weymouth's penalty came after the break when Conal Platt went down under pressure from Darryl Taylor.

Tindall said: "Vicks is a bit disappointed with regards to the first one. He dived in when he did not really need to but that is just the nature of the beast. It looked a penalty from where I was but until I see the video I can't really say either way.

"As for ours Conal said he was in front of the defender who tripped him. Again it could have gone one way or the other but it has gone in our favour this time and we tucked it away.

"Once Tony scored that we looked strong and there was never any doubt in my mind that we would go on and get another.

When Platt was asked his thoughts on the decision, he added: "I don't know really. Bevs laid it off to me and I was just in front of the defender and ready to unleash when I felt a little nudge and went down. People said I did a bit of a dive but it certainly wasn't."

Skipper Trevor Challis was replaced in the Terras' starting XI after suffering an injury in the warm up. Vickers took his place.

Tindall said: "Trev went out there and tweaked his hamstring. I am not sure how long he will be out for because you are never too sure with that type of injury but it will probably be for a week to ten days."

The Weymouth Travel Club is running a coach to the away game at Aldershot Town tomorrow, leaving the Wessex Stadium at 3.45pm. The cost is £12. To book a seat telephone Ian White on 836361.
