KINGS Arms saw their hopes of winning all 22 of their league matches this season go up in smoke when they were held to a draw by New Star at Redlands.

The Weymouth Sunday League champions went into the game with a flawless record of 21 victories out of 21 matches.

They needed to beat New Star and Market House on April 19 to complete a perfect campaign.

However, island outfit New Star were having other ideas, and they may well have come away from Redlands with three points instead of one.

Goals from Marcus Simpson and Robert Squibb put them 2-0 up at half-time.

But back came Kings Arms in the second half and they hauled themselves level through Jeb Gay and Norton Rogers.

Try as they might, the hosts were unable to find that all-important third goal.

Also in the latest round of fixtures, there was a 3-0 defeat for second-placed Famous Old Spa at home to Dolphin.

Sean Gulliver, Josh Houghton and Oscar Preece were on target for Dolphin, who can now snatch third place off New Star.

They are one point adrift of the side currently occupying third but have a game left – New Star have finished their league season.

Elsewhere, Luke Morrley bagged a hat-trick as Moby Dick’s overcame Bakers Arms 5-2 at Budmouth School.

Daniel Shepperd and Craig Wells scored the home side’s others goals, while Matt Roberts and Matt Sturmey replied for the visitors, who had Callum Coleman sent off.

Down at the bottom, Weatherbury beat Market House 4-2 to leapfrog their opponents and move into 10th place.

Martyn Jones, Craig Menton, Ian Merrill and Chris Shutlar delivered the goods for Weatherbury in the clash at Redlands.
