CHRIS Park insists the entire Dorset squad are “playing for places” as they go into their first Dean Park clash of the summer tomorrow.

The Hampshire second XI are set to lock horns with Park’s troops (11am), who got their pre-season schedule off to a perfect start with a comfortable triumph over Wiltshire on Monday.

A huge boost for the hosts is that star run-getter Chris Jones is likely to make his first appearance of the season ahead of Dorset’s first competitive one-day encounter against Cornwall next week.

“Chris Jones will come into the 12 and we are all playing for places,” Park told Echosport.

“He will have been hitting some balls this week in preparation for the game. If you bring Luke Webb back into the equation we will then have a very strong 13 and some tough decisions to make.”

Dorset pulled off a shock victory when they overcame Hampshire in pre-season last year, and the captain believes the Ageas Bowl side will be out for revenge this time around.

“I am sure they are looking to put one over on us. We are looking forward to it,” Park added. “They are always very competitive and if the weather stays good, Dean Park will be looking absolutely stunning and it will be a great way to start our season at home.”
