WEYMOUTH player-manager Jason Tindall has spoken to former AFC Bournemouth striker Steve Fletcher about a possible move to the Wessex Stadium.

The Cherries released the 34-year-old last week but despite registering an interest in the front man's services, Tindall's hands are tied until the club's future has been resolved.

The Terras' boss played alongside Fletcher during an eight-year stay at Bournemouth and he believes the big target man should consider dropping down two levels to Nationwide Conference National.

Tindall said: "Fletch could certainly have a big impact on the Conference but I'm sure there are managers who think he could do a job in League One or League Two and I'm sure he would.

"I've already spoken to him and would be interested in bringing him here, provided it was right for me, Fletch and, most importantly, Weymouth Football Club.

"Before I came here, I used to regard it as an easy level, so to speak. I was very surprised though because there isn't much difference to League One.

"The top seven or eight would cope in League One and although the others might struggle, they wouldn't be out of place in League Two.

"You've only got to look at what Yeovil Town and Carlisle United have achieved.

"They both went through League Two after going up from the Conference and both finished in the top half of League One this season, with Yeovil in the play-offs."

Fletcher has admitted to receiving several phone calls expressing an interest in his services but for the moment he is keeping his options open.

He said: "I've had a few calls and I've told people that I just want to get over the first week and come to terms with what's happened.

"Everybody I've spoken to have respect for my wishes and it's nice for people to show an interest in such a short space of time.

"I will consider every option and would be very stupid not to. It wouldn't matter if it were Conference, two leagues below the Conference or two leagues above.

"I would be an idiot not to speak to everybody who takes the trouble to contact me."
