West Dorset Swimming Club had much to celebrate following an outstanding performance at the Bournemouth Dolphins Open Meet held at Littledown.

The Warriors won an impressive haul of eight gold, 11 silver and 16 bronze medals.

Fifteen-year-old West Dorset Warrior Carl Hornyak shone as brightly as his medals.

He was delighted to win a total of five including gold for the 200m freestyle where he managed to knock a full six seconds off his time.

In addition the youngster captured gold for the 100m freestyle which was also a personal best time.

Hornyak got bronze in the open 400m freestyle where he was first in his age group, the 200m breaststroke and the 50m breaststroke.

Head coach at West Dorset, Janet Hewitt, said: "Carl deserves to have done so well. He has shown real commitment to his training in recent months and has real determination. That is paying off for him with the results he's getting now."

Warriors' vice-captain Simon Middleton grabbed two bronze medals in the 50m freestyle and butterfly and got top five places for every swim entered.

Meanwhile Scott Civil achieved a massive 13-second personal best time in the 200m butterfly to capture bronze.

Matt Hallett scooped four medals gaining silver in the 100m and 200m backstroke and bronze in the 50m back and 100m butterfly.

Kim Roberts showed true girl power with a total of five medals including gold for the 200m freestyle. In the 50m freestyle she earned silver and got through to the Skins final where she finished fourth.

Meanwhile West Dorset vice- captain Charlene Riglar was delighted with two silvers and a bronze.

The younger Warriors were not to be outdone however, and 11-year-old Peter Horne also came home with five medals.

He won gold for the 50m backstroke and secured silver in the 100m and backstroke, the 100m and the 50m freestyle.

Ryan Knott, 12, came first in the 50m freestyle and backstroke and second in the 50m fly. But Knott's main achievement was to go four seconds under the Western Counties qualifying time in the 200m backstroke.

Eleven-year-old Peter Thornton also got an excellent WCQT in the same event, winning gold in the process.

Hewitt added: "I'm delighted that Ryan and Peter have got their Western Counties times. We have a lot of older swimmers with their qualifying times but it's great for the younger ones to share in that success.

"West Dorset now has twice as many swimmers going to the Regional Championships as we did last year. We're obviously on the right track."

Ten-year-olds Victoria Halford and Amie Buttle were also medal winners as was Frankie Taylor in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events. Tom Lewis shaved four seconds off his backstroke time while Rhian-non Davies came second for her age in both the 50m butterfly and the 200m breaststroke.
