DORCHESTER Town boss Mick Jenkins has welcomed the news of the possible arrival of a new major investor and cannot wait to start building a squad capable of challenging for promotion in Conference South.

Jenkins has already made contact with several targets and is itching to start negotiations but until the arrival of the mystery director is confirmed then he will be forced to play the waiting game.

He said: "Last week's news is very promising for the club and the town and it is what is needed. Once it is all finalised then I am sure it will bring some exciting times."

Jenkins is also keen to open talks with some of his current players whose contracts expire this summer. Those men include the likes of Alex Browne and Mark Jermyn.

He added: "Obviously I won't know what the budget for next season is until everything has been sorted but I have already identified some targets and I cannot wait to start signing a few, as well as sorting out deals with some of the current squad.

"For the time being things are a bit in limbo but hopefully everything will be resolved later this week. I know the task ahead and I am looking forward to getting started."

When asked how negotiations with the new investor are progressing, Town chairman Chris Pugsley said: "There are still things that have got to be done. There is a meeting tonight but nothing will be signed this week because we have called an EGM to increase the share issue and that cannot take place until June 11.

"The guy wants to get on with everything quickly and in the meantime we may do a short term arrangement but Mick has already got an idea of what the budget will be and he is already working on things for next season."
