BRIDPORT skipper Paul Tweddle branded tomorrow's clash with struggling Wimborne and Colehill in Dorset League Division One (2pm) as a must-win game for his young side.

The Dorset gloveman said his troops must treat it like a cup final and continue to pick up points if they are to have a successful summer.

Tweddle said: "Hopefully Saturday will give us a good chance to work on things we have identified as being problem areas and another chance to improve.

"I believe it to be essential against struggling teams that we pick up points and treat them as massive games.

"These will be the games that decide whether we do well or indifferently in a league full of teams with differing abilities."

Wimborne and Colehill currently prop up the table alongside Beaminster, having collected just 17 points from their opening three fixtures.

Marnhull, Bournemouth and Corfe Mullen have already beaten them. They boast a top score of 142 and have been bowled out on all three occasions.

However, the East Dorset side have fared much better with the ball. They have collected 29 of the 30 wickets on offer so far and their bowlers have notched 14 of their 17 points to date.

Bridport have performed in similar fashion with the ball but have so far misfired with the bat.

Rob Atkins and Paul Tweddle have shown glimpses of good form but have a long way to go before realising their potential.

Phil Gisborne is still finding his feet after missing the opening match of the campaign and consistent performer Chris Backhouse is still sidelined with a knee injury.

Meanwhile 16-year-old Fred Everitt has been the star performer with three superb knocks in succession.

His scores of 49, 27 and 59 make him the side's top run scorer and have so far repaid the faith shown in him by the skipper.

Similar faith has also seen Pete Russell and Will Everitt impress with the ball but big performances from all three will be required for victory on Saturday.

Tweddle is likely to hand a debut to all rounder Dave Herbert.
