WEYMOUTH 275-9 (25pts) beat BLANDFORD 211 all-out (9pts) by 64 runs

SKIPPER Dean Janaway hit a stunning century as the Seasiders got back to winning ways at Blandford in the Dorset Funeral Plan League Premier Division.

Just like Michael Vaughan did for England against the West Indies the previous day, the Weymouth captain ended a frustrating run of form by cutting loose and hitting a flurry of boundaries to give his side the lift they desperately needed after two successive defeats.

Janaway's fabulous knock ended on 133 and included 19 fours and two sixes but it was the performance of the team that pleased him most.

He said: "It was a really good team effort. I owed the lads some runs and was pleased to get a century but more importantly we got the win after the disappointment of last weekend.

"The lads have done a lot of work in the nets since then and had two games in the evening league and everyone was clearly up for it today.

"Everyone bowled well on a good pitch although Cole (70 not out) did bat well for them. He hit some really big shots at a time when they looked out of the game but we kept taking wickets and in the end it was a great win."

Seamer Dan Belt won a call-up to the first team after taking eight wickets the previous week for the seconds and he did not disappoint. Bowling off spin again due to injury, the Dorset player snared 4-27.

Janaway said: "Dan's spell was superb. He got a wicket in his first over after our opening bowlers had failed to find a breakthrough and that set us up because we kept taking wickets after that.

"Another two players who did superbly were Jim Ryall (41) and Paul Payne (32) who both batted really well but like I said it was just a great team performance today."

The visitors got off to a flying start with Ryall and Janaway putting on an opening stand of 78 before the former was caught by Hannam off the bowling of Robbins (1-34).

Tom England then lost his wicket after making just nine runs but that brought Payne to the crease. He shared a 108 partnership with his skipper to move the Seasiders on to 230.

Janaway then departed after finding the hands of Hannam but the damage had already been done. Despite losing their next six wickets for just 40 runs the visitors knew Blandford would have to put on an incredible run chase to deny them victory.

Chris Baker was the pick of the Blandford bowlers with figures of 3-58 although Day (2-24) and Miller (2-27) also bowled well.

Blandford's reply had a solid start with Baker (35) and Sunil Sawney (22) producing an opening partnership of 45.

Belt then caused Sawney to hole out to Dave Pearce before Laurie Whyte (3-56) displaced Baker with a fine caught and bowled.

The hosts were now looking shaky and Belt took full advantage by gaining three quick wickets, trapping both Dan Brockway (36) and White (0) leg before, before causing Chris Baker (0) to knock the ball into the hands of Payne.

Whyte then clean bowled Hannam (2) to leave Blandford struggling on 109-6 but the home side did put up some resistance with number five Cole hammering 70 off 53 balls.

Day (21) also battled well in the lower order but it was never going to be enough as Weymouth mopped up with Michael Pearce (1-46), Matt Lawes (1-48) and Brett Mugridge (1-30) all grabbing a wicket apiece.
