YEOVIL Town boss Russell Slade refused to get down after yesterday's 2-0 defeat in the Coca-Cola League One Play-Off final at Wembley.

More than 25,000 fans of the Somerset outfit made the trip to the new national stadium but they watched their men totally outplayed by a Blackpool side who recorded a club-record tenth successive win with goals from Robbie Williams and Keigan Parker.

Town were favourites for the drop at the start of the season but Slade's management has rejuvenated the club, which at one stage looked to be on a downward spiral after the departure of former boss Gary Johnson.

The Coca-Cola League One manager of the year is now looking forward to strengthening his side in the summer. Speaking after the defeat, he said: "I am expecting the players in on Tuesday and I will talk to them about the future then.

"However, I also hope to be making a few signings over the summer because I am not looking backwards at the final, I am looking forward. This football club can still get to the Championship and we can still be successful."

Star midfielder Chris Cohen had to leave the field in the first half at Wembley after suffering a recurrence of a groin injury.

Slade added: "Chris needed an injection before the game because he was not really fit. He will go in for surgery tomorrow."

Town skipper Terry Skiverton was included on the bench after recovering from a groin problem but he was not drafted into the action and was sorely missed.

Nathan Jones kept the armband and from the first whistle it was clear that the Glovers were the more nervous side as the Tangerines dominated possession.

Wes Hoolahan and Adrian Forbes both dragged shots wide before Cohen made way for Jean-Paul Kalala on 40 minutes.

Three minutes later and the deadlock was broken. A dubious decision for a foul on Parker on the edge of the area handed the Tangerines a free-kick and Williams curled the ball past the despairing lunge of Town stopper Steve Mildenhall, whose positioning was very questionable.

To their credit the Glovers responded with Arron Davies having a free-kick tipped over the bar by Paul Rachubka but just after the break Blackpool got a killer second.

A fine counter-attack saw Parker advance towards the area and with the Yeovil defence retreating and Mildenhall off his line, the talented forward bent a superb shot around the giant keeper and into the far corner to the delight of his club's fans behind the goal.

Mildenhall made a couple of excellent saves to stop the deficit being enhanced further before former Premiership star Marcus Stewart wasted a late chance of giving the Glovers some hope when he headed over from a couple of yards after a fine cross by Wayne Gray.

Slade said: "The second goal was a bit of a blow but on the balance of play Blackpool were the better team and deserved their success.

"We have had a good season but in the last 90 minutes it never came together. There were some disappointing performances and it's not easy to take but hopefully it will make us come back stronger."
