WINDOWMAN Weymouth Sunday League chairman Mark Cottingham believes the future of the competition is looking "rosy."

The Black Dog goalkeeper was among approximately 200 people who attended the league's annual presentation night at the Pavilion in Weymouth, which saw the Belvedere pick up the Premier-ship title and the Spa collect the Championship crown.

The Black Dog also showed off the Dorset Intermediate Sunday Cup and the Len Mahoney Cup while the Cork & Bottle paraded the Les Hallett Cup.

Cottingham said: "The whole evening went off really well. There was a good turn out and even teams who had not won anything attended which is something that has not happened in previous years.

"Considering all the problems we had with the weather and only getting one or two games played a month it was a really good, exciting season.

"We have got two or three new teams that are now interested in joining the league and things are looking very rosy for next year."

Belvedere player-boss Bobby Darch picked up the Premiership top-scorer gong and Dean Williams of Finns did likewise for the Championship. The Weather-bury also made a special presentation to supporter Charles Edgington.

The league was forced to abandon its annual six-a-side competition for the second time at the Marsh on Sunday. The tournament fell to the weather on May 13 and it suffered the same fate again.

Cottingham said: "To have that happen twice is unbelievable and it is a real shame. We made a decision early looking at the forecast and it proved to be the right one. The pitches are now being taken down so unfortunately the competition will not take place again until next year."
