A WEYMOUTH man has had the privilege to compete in the Extreme Sailing Series.
Neil Hunter has been bowman on board the British-flagged boat, Land Rover BAR Academy for Act One held in Muscat and Act Two in Qingdao.
The racing takes place on super-fast GC32 catamarans over short courses.
The 21-year-old has been really relishing the experience.
He said: “I was fortunate enough to be invited to sail at the Extreme Sailing Series Act 2 in Qingdao, China as a trialist for the Land Rover BAR Acad- emy.
“The Extreme Sailing Series consists of eight events throughout 2016 competing against a world class line-up and I am currently trialling along with a lot of other under 23 sailors.
“We really showed that we can mix it with the much more experienced teams with a third place in Act One in Muscat, Oman, and a very respectable fourth in China.”
So far in the series, this leaves Hunter’s team in fourth place overall.
Hunter already has a number of achievements to his name including being a two-time 49er national champion, fifth at the ISAF Sailing World Cup final and has been invited to join the British Sailing Team.
He hopes to be part of the team for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 and aims to win a gold medal sailing a 49er. For more details, visit extremesailingseries.com
