BROADSTONE SECONDS 202-9 (6) lost to DORCHESTER 203-3 (19) by seven wickets

DORCHESTER proved their strength in depth by continuing their 100 per cent record in Dorset Funeral Plan League Division One despite being without the full services of bowlers Charlie Sutton and Rob Waite.

Sutton was unavailable for the clash at Broadstone and Waite pulled a hamstring in the second over causing him to become a passenger for the rest of the encounter.

That meant the pressure was on Phil Morley (4-39) and Quenton Miller (1-28) to step up to the plate and both men did not let their side down as Broadstone collapsed from 100-1 to 202-9.

Debutant Liam Coward (0-51) also showed promise with the ball and there was some fine work in the field.

In reply, the county town side flexed their muscles with Pete Moxom (57), Lee Ames (57 not out), Steve Gerety (28) and Martin Richards (29 not out) all impressing.

Winning skipper Mark Derrien said: "They were going well on 139-3 but Phil and Quenton both bowled superbly and put pressure on them by taking wickets and in the end they collapsed to 202.

"Liam Coward also did well. He is really quick and he put on a very promising performance, which was pleasing.

"In reply we managed to knock them off for the loss of just three wickets. Ian Sibley is having a bit of a lean spell at the moment and he went in the first over but then Lee Ames joined Pete Moxom and put us firmly in the driving seat. Pete batted well and when he went Lee saw us home with Steve and then Martin.

"At Stalbridge the other week the headline was the Sutton and Waite show but we were without them both really today and I think the performance proves the strength we have got.

"It is disappointing that we missed out on maximum points but we have won six out of six now and with the bottom three sides being our next three opponents hopefully we can keep that run going."

Morley claimed the wicket of Trinaman (9) early on but some fine batting by Fry (50) soon had Broadstone on the right track.

Jones (35) and Goldsack (57 not out) also produced some fine strokes and at 188-4 the hosts looked in the driving seat.

However, Goldsack was given no support as the next six wickets fell for just 14 runs with Morley doing the majority of the damage.

Dorchester lost Sibley (0), who was trapped leg before by Farrant (1-35), in the first over of their reply but they soon pepped up their innings with Moxom and Ames forming a second-wicket stand of 85.

Abbott (1-46) then clean bowled Moxom before Gerety suffered the same fate at the hands of Bray (1-42). That left Dorchester on 135-3 but it did not faze them as Richards joined Ames to see the league leaders comfortably past the finishing post.
