CUE Card has the opportunity to remind everyone of his brilliance as the stable star bids to claim the Betfair Chase at Haydock for a third time tomorrow (3pm).

Despite being the highest-rated chaser in Britain, the Colin Tizzard-trained 10-year-old is looking to get back to winning ways with a host of challengers looking to take him on this weekend.

His reverse in the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby, when he could only finish third behind Irish Cavalier and Menorah, was a surprise, but trainer Tizzard remained in a bullish mood ahead of the trip to Merseyside.

The Milborne Port handler told the Racing Post: “We jumped Cue Card this morning (on Wednesday) and he jumped beautifully.

“We thought we had him fit for Wetherby first time but he is definitely fitter now. The race has brought him on.”

Irish Cavalier renews his rivalry with Cue Card, but that rival now meets the Tizzard inmate on level terms, whereas he was in receipt of 4lb in the Charlie Hall.

Menorah, too, is also back for another go but the ageing chaser will not be a happy bunny if the forecast rain continues.

The main challenger could come in the form of Coneygree. The 2015 Gold Cup hero is expected to be ridden by Richard Johnson after regular pilot Nico de Boinville had fractured his arm at Cheltenham over the weekend.

*Harry Fry trained Unowhatimeanharry, a star for the Seaborough yard at Cheltenham last term, is set to go in the Betfair Exchange ‘Fixed Brush’ Handicap Hurdle, also at Haydock (2.25pm).
