FORWARD Jefferson Louis has become the latest player to join the ranks at Weymouth.

The 28-year-old, who is 6ft 2in tall, signed a one-year contract last night and Terras' boss Jason Tindall is delighted with the deal.

The Blue Square Premier outfit's chief executive Gary Calder said: "Jefferson finished last season with Havant & Waterlooville. Before that he had spells with Yeading and Stevenage Borough and at the start of the 2005-06 campaign he was at Bristol Rovers. He has also played for Woking, Forest Green Rovers and Oxford United.

"Jason thinks Jefferson will be the fastest player at the club. He is a big, strong and quick lad and with Jason's way of getting the best out of players he should become a great asset for us.

"We have been negotiating with him for a few weeks and Jason is delighted that he has finally signed."

The most memorable goal of Louis' career so far came in a second round FA Cup tie in December 2002 against Swindon Town when his winning strike handed Oxford a lucrative clash at Arsenal in the next stage.

The Us were beaten at Highbury 2-0 with Louis coming on as a second-half substitute.

Oxford also visited Charlton Athletic that same season in the second round of the Worthington Cup and it was Louis who scored the winning spot-kick in a penalty shootout that landed his side a home tie with Aston Villa, which the Villans won 3-0.

Meanwhile, it appears Roy O'Brien's career at the Wessex Stadium is over. The defender has had no contact with the club since the end of last season.

O'Brien said: "I have not heard anything and I am quite disappointed about that. If they do not want me it would be nice of them to let me know but to be honest I am not too fussed now anyway as I have got a couple of other things lined up."

O'Brien has been linked with a return to his former club Dorchester Town. He added: "I have spoken to a couple of people down there but there is nothing concrete there and I just want to wait to see what happens."

When quizzed about O'Brien, Dorchester's director of football Shaun Brooks said: "I have spoken to him but it has not gone an awful lot further.

"Weymouth pay higher wages than us and we cannot really go along that route. If we did then it would be with a view to that player coming and working for the club.

"In time we would like to bring in coaches with professional playing experience but at the present time our main priority is to build a strong first team."
