WEYMOUTH striker Stuart Beavon has made it clear that he never had any intentions of leaving the Wessex Stadium.

The 23-year-old became an instant hero among the Terras' fans when he joined the club in January but there were fears that he may move on at the end of last season.

Several clubs were interested in taking Beavon, including a few League outfits, but there was only one place where he wanted to be.

He said: "I am delighted everything has been sorted now and when you just look at training and the players that are now around the place, the signs look good and it should be a really good season.

"I was on holiday when I got the call to tell me everything was ready for me so I came down and signed and I was really happy to do that.

"I was always happy to stay here at the end of the day but obviously had things not happened how they have then I might have had to move on.

"I have always enjoyed my time down here and I am now just looking forward to getting out there playing again."

Trevor Challis and Narada Bernard have both now signed one-year contracts and the completion of Simon Weatherstone's deal is imminent.

Ashley Vickers is also expected to put pen-to-paper when he returns from America next week.

James Coutts remains in negotiations.

Speaking yesterday after his side's first pre-season training session, Jason Tindall said: "It feels good to be back. We have had a long break but the boys had a good blow and they have all come back in pretty good shape, which is very encouraging."

New-signings Jonathan Stewart, Kyle Critchell, Scott Doe and Jefferson Louis were among those in training along with several trialists.

Tindall said: "The new lads are all settling in well and to be honest I am delighted with the signings we have made.

"I know what they are capable of and I am sure they will all turn out to be good signings for us. And hopefully there will be a few more that will join them soon.

"The other thing we have at the moment is a few boys coming in so we can have a look at them and they can have a look at us. And if I feel some of them would be good signings for the football club then I will look at bringing them in."

When asked whether any of the youngsters who took part in training have been offered contracts, Tindall added: "Lewis Ironside and Callum Crawley will be with us again next season and Scott Dixon and Callum Ross-Jennins have come back again for pre-season."

The fixtures for the Blue Square Premier were released yesterday. Tindall added: "There are no easy games in this league and Halifax Town will be tough on the opening day but we have the rest of pre-season to prepare for that.

"We have invested a lot of money in things like a heart-rate monitor and other equipment. We have also brought a fitness coach on board. He worked in the Sports Science Dep-artment at Blackburn Rovers last season and he will be helping us make sure that we are in the best possible shape for the start of the season."
