DORCHESTER Athletics Club's Jemma Tewkesbury has been on the competition trail recently putting in some impressive performances, most notably a sixth place finish in the England Athletics UK Under-20 Championships.

The 16-year-old javelin thrower notched up her second best ever throw of 39.19m in Bedford as she competed with the UK's best young female talent.

A week before, she finished sixth again this time in the South of England Championship. The Dorchester athlete was a little disappointed with her best effort of 35.94m in the under-20 event.

The UK Athletics ThrowsFest followed her impressive display at the UK Championships.

Here Tewkesbury was up against the best throwers in the UK but despite being one of the youngest competitors at the showpiece in Birmingham's Alexander Stadium, the county town thrower finished fifth in the second group of athletes with a result of 38.49m as her best effort on the day.

Tewkesbury's action packed schedule will continue with another trip to Birmingham for the English Schools National Championship on July 13 where she will be joined by the rest of the Dorset team.
