WEYMOUTH have announced that their first-team squad will be flying off to Croatia on Monday to take on Hajduk Split as part of a pre-season tour.

The Terras will stay in a complex in Split and use the Eastern European side's facilities for four days before returning late on Thursday.

The Wessex Stadium outfit's owner Mel Bush set up the trip after making contact with Croatia's national coach and former West Ham United player Slaven Bilic.

Terras' commercial officer Ken Wilde told Echosport: "The lads will be flying out on Monday to a training camp out there and they will play a friendly against Hajduk Split in their training facility on Thursday morning.

"This a great coup for the club. To play friendlies against that type of opposition who have played at the highest level in European competitions is fantastic."

He added: "Mel Bush has got contacts in Croatia and he knows Slaven Bilic and that is how the tour came to fruition.

"Mel Bush is not only looking to put the club in a forward footing here but he also wants to raise its profile in other countries."

Hajduk Split have reached the quarter-finals of the European Cup, now UEFA Champions League, three times with the last occasion coming in 1995.

They also got to the semi-final stage of the 1973 Cup Winners Cup where they were beaten by Leeds United who went on to lose in the final 1-0 against AC Milan.

A last-four place is also their best achievement in the UEFA Cup. That run came in 1984 when eventual winners Tottenham Hotspur knocked them out on away goals.

Split have also won 17 league titles and 19 domestic cups.

Terras' boss Jason Tindall said: "This trip is important because it will give the squad a chance to bond and get to know each other.

"But we are not just going over there for a jolly. We will be training hard in hot conditions and we also have a friendly against quality opposition."

When asked whether he is close to signing any more players, Tindall added: "We are almost there with James Coutts and there is one or maybe two trialists I am thinking about taking to Croatia.

"I will be talking to one of them later today and if we can agree something then I think he would be a fantastic addition to what is already looking a very good squad."
