DORCHESTER'S British Husqvarna rider Simon Wakely sits top of the European Enduro Championship after two second place finishes in round two of the series held in Cered, Hungary.

MPS Racing's Wakely performed well against his European championship rivals finishing frustratingly close to Lukasz Kurowski on day one in the Junior E2 class.

With little to split the pair during the day as they traded special test wins Wakely eventually found himself second, less than half a second behind his Polish class mate.

On day two, the 21 year-old wasn't quite able to perform as well as he had on the first day and despite his best efforts he again placed as runner-up, nine seconds adrift of rival Kurowski.

Wakely was pleased with his finishes but a little frustrated he couldn't get the better of his Polish opponent, he said: "I had a really good battle with Kurowski on the first day. It was a little disappointing though not to have won the first day because there was only a second between us.

"I didn't make any mistakes on the second day, but Kurowski was that little bit faster than me and took the win."

With double runner-up finishes at both of the opening two rounds of the 2007 EEC series Wakely now leads the Junior E2/E3 class with two rounds remaining, which delights the Dorchester rider.

"I've had two great days and am now leading the championship which I'm really pleased about. It's great to be leading the class half way through the championship."

Wakely received another boost in the form of sponsorship by Mike Hughes and Simon Dobinson of Dorchester Motor Company.

The MPS Husqvarna team will next be in action at the opening round of the British Enduro Championship on July 14 and 15.

Wakely will then look to stay at the top of his class when the third round of the European Enduro Championship takes place in Heinola, Finland on August 18 and 19.
