WESSEX Golf Centre professional Jon Bevan pulled off a magical second round at Downfield in Scotland yesterday to qualify for The Open for the second year running.
The Weymouth ace was five shots off the lead after his first round 71 but he responded by shooting an impressive 65 to finish top of the pile.
His second round included eight birdies and in the end he finished one shot ahead of second-placed Dave Higgins and two in front of Scott Drummond, who will both also be teeing off at Carnoustie on July 19.
Speaking to Echosport, Bevan said: "I am ecstatic. To get straight back there after last year is absolutely fantastic.
"I have worked hard all my life to get in the Open because it is the one tournament that really gets me going and now I just cannot wait until it starts."
Of his sparkling performance at Downfield, Bevan added: "I played extremely well. I started my first round a bit nervous but after five holes I switched to a totally different way of thinking.
"I was a lot more positive and after that I had no problems at all. It was very pleasing."
