TIM Davis has become Weymouth Football Club's new youth development manager and has been given the task of attracting the best young players in the area to the Wessex Stadium.

Terras' boss Jason Tindall is very keen to strengthen the club's youth ranks and is looking forward to seeing more talent like Lewis Ironside and Callum Crawley progressing into the first-team squad over the coming years.

Weymouth's commercial manager Ken Wilde said: "It has been a very busy time but now Jason Tindall is getting his squad together the next priority is youth development.

"Jason would have liked to have been more involved at this stage himself but he is delighted Gary Calder has asked Tim to come in.

"Tim will be working closely with Jason and as well as doing curricular coaching in schools he will also be looking at continuing the development of all youth football and girls football in the area."

Over the past few years Davis has been a committed member of the Terras' commercial team and although he will continue to help in that area his priorities are now very different.

He said: "It is my role to attract quality young players to Weymouth from across the county and re-launch the academy, and I will be talking to relevant coaches in-order to get everything in place as soon as possible.

"Players like Callum Crawley and Lewis Ironside have come up through the system recently and we want to keep that going but in-order for us to do that we will need support from the local community, the council and local businesses."

First-team players Trevor Challis and Simon Weatherstone will also be heavily involved in the development of the academy youth teams and Tindall is committed to taking his squad into local schools whenever it is possible.

Wilde said: "We are trying to get the internal structure of the club right and we are pleased with the way things are progressing.

"We are in the midst of trying to find someone else to come in and work on the football in the community side, working with schools and the wider community, and helping Tim with some coaching. Hopefully we will be able to get someone in place for that role soon."
