BRIDPORT 2

WELLINGTON AFC 3

BEES’ boss Adam Fricker has labelled his side’s 3-2 defeat against Wellington at St Mary’s Field as “the curse of the midweek games”.

Bridport again followed up an impressive weekend result, winning 3-1 against Street, with a weekday defeat, prompting Fricker to give an honest assessment of the Bees’ display.

He said: “It’s the curse of the midweek games. As a team collectively we struggled. Whether it was a lull from Saturday I don’t know.

“It was disappointing from our part. I wouldn’t say we got what we deserved but we should be putting teams like Wellington to bed to be honest.”

Goals from Wellington’s Jack Taylor, Conor Bryant and Ian Bellinger were enough to overcome strikes from Bridport’s Tom Richardson and Leighton Thomas on Wednesday night.

But Fricker is upbeat going into the Les Phillips League Cup preliminary round tie against Keynsham Town at St Mary’s Field (3pm).

He said: “I know a little bit about Keynsham and they will look to play good football.

“As long as we do what we can do we should be progressing, but we’re certainly not taking it for granted.

“Providing from our perspective we can keep everyone fit and healthy it helps because it gives us a chance to give the players as many games as possible.”

Leigh Bailey and Kameron Andrews return after the duo missed the Wellington loss through unavailability.
