PORTLAND RED TRIANGLE II 142 all out (18pts) beat PARKSTONE 31-8 all out (5pts)
RED Triangle Seconds maintained their good away form in Dorset Funeral Plan Division Seven with a convincing win against a depleted Parkstone at Branksome Recreation Ground.
Asked to bat first, Triangle lost the early wickets of opener Adam Smart and captain Tony Quayle, before Bill Gates (24) and Glen Kelman (27) stabilised the innings with a partnership of 40.
New Zealander Alan Marshall (15) and then Pete Tombs (22) supported Kelman well on a difficult batting track.
The introduction of Ward (4-36) to the attack sparked a collapse and the islanders struggled to finish on 142.
In reply, opening bowlers Kelman (3-20) and Dan Strong (4-8) utilised the conditions well, and combined with some good fielding, reduced the home side to 17-5.
A spirited fight-back led by Ward (10), who hit some lusty blows to the boundary, was ended by Kelman and Parkstone were bowled out for 31.
Quayle said: "It was a good, battling performance from the team and credit to Parkstone who put up a good fight even though they were short of players.
"Glen batted and bowled superbly and young Dan's spell was brilliant and will boost his confidence.
"We now need to keep up this level for the rest of the season and try to start winning some home games."
