DARTS players on Portland took on Crafty Cockney Eric Bristow on the oche at the New Inn, Easton Street last night.

And for Jimmy Allen, a New Inn team player, it was a night to remember for he beat Bristow at his own game.

And there was high praise from Bristow who told the crowd: "He totally deserved his win.

"During this, his second visit to the popular pub, Bristow played one leg with each of the 20 challengers and the first was Sian McMurray who had won the honour of being the Crafty Cockney's first opponent in a recent pub tournament.

Bristow had travelled from London for the event which was arranged by New Inn landlord Spencer Cullun.

The Portland publican said: "I am keen to promote darts in the area and Eric gave us superb entertainment tonight.

"The New Inn has two men's and two ladies' teams and we are always keen to welcome more players."

Bristow's visit was under the auspices of Punch Taverns and at the end of the evening the five-times world champion said: "I travel all over the country on these engagements and I can honestly say that I met with a good standard of play here tonight."
