LYTCHETT MINSTER 0

DORCHESTER 94

DORCHESTER recorded their biggest-ever win against a brave but injury-ravaged Lytchett Minster, running out handsome 94-0 winners in their Dorset & Wilts One South encounter.

Having amassed a club-record 18 tries, Dorchester now sit two points above Wimborne, with a +233 points difference.

After some early unforced errors, Dorchester strung several phases together and stand-in skipper James Baker touched down in the right corner.

Alex Peel grabbed the second, scoring his first senior try for the club in the process, following James Newsam’s break.

Newsam then forced his way over for the first of his three.

Peel then ran 60 yards for his second before Newsam and Baker both added their second tries of the afternoon, which together with two conversions gave Dorchester a 34-point lead at the break.

Some dogged defence by the home side frustrated Dorchester at the start of the second half.

It was fully 15 minutes before Dorchester added to their score, flanker Charlie Harries crossing after a line-out drive.

Winger George Foot then added his name to the list of try scorers, followed soon after by replacement full-back Matt Read.

An injury-plagued Lytchett carried on bravely but Newsam completed his hat-trick, Matt Fry and Sam Jones joined the party before Harries and Read each added their second scores of the day.

The scoring was completed by Baker adding his third and fourth tries as Dorchester registered a record win for the first team, passing the 99-7 win against Ventnor back in October 1997.

Dorchester head coach Ben Parker wanted to keep the result in perspective. He said: “What can I say except a good solid performance?

“We had spoken about aiming higher and playing at the next level to ready ourselves for the Southern Counties.

“I think the lads showed it on Saturday.

“It wasn’t a perfect game but they are now identifying areas where they need to improve themselves.

“This was not a pushover game against Lytchett as the score may suggest, they fronted up and we had to work hard to get around them to score our tries.”

n The Copper Street Costa Coffee man-of-the-match was club captain James Newsam.

n Dorchester’s A XV also recorded a 47-29 win at Dinton, while the girls’ under-15s and under-18 both recorded away victories at Bridgwater and the ladies’ team beat Oakmeadians 40-29.

n Weymouth & Portland’s trip to Dorset Dockers resulted in a home walkover, leaving the Seahorses in 11th place.
